If you’re searching for mattresses online, then you’ve probably found yourself in the middle of a mattress store scratching your head in the presence of a pushy salesman one too many times. Most people leave the store feeling like they could have spent their time doing something better.
Amerisleep has fully embraced the upcoming online mattress sales model. You will never be hassled by a salesman, and you won’t have to worry about paying any of the ridiculous surcharges and extra shipping/delivery fees.
You pick the mattress you want, and Amerisleep will ship it to you directly.
Because there is some level of ambiguity when it comes to buying anything online, and you may decide on another mattress at the end of the day, Amerisleep offers a 100-day trial period. If you are unsatisfied with your experience after you’ve slept on your Amerisleep mattress for at least 30 days, then they will issue a full refund, no questions asked.
If you think about it, you’ve got nothing to lose (other than your worn-out, uncomfortable old mattress).
Let’s start our Amerisleep review by taking a brief look at what they offer, and what makes them different from their competitors.
About Amerisleep
Amerisleep was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona. They built their business around the idea of producing quality memory foam mattresses with one thing in mind; customer comfort and satisfaction.
To achieve this, they put years of work into designing a full lineup of high-tech, durable mattresses that are bound to satisfy even the most sensitive sleepers. From their firm AS1 model all the way down to their super-plush AS5, you have plenty of options to choose from.
It’s worth noting that Amerisleep’s AS3 is their most highly-reviewed and popular model available. It combines a perfect balance of both comfort and support for the average sleeper. If you’ve read any other Amerisleep reviews, this is the model that they’ve most likely been referring to.
The most interesting feature that sets these guys apart from the competition is their adjustable bed. For an extra fee, you can get a fully automated, adjustable base to go along with your bed. Pretty cool, right? We’ll get into more details on this feature later in our Amerisleep review.
One of the really nice things about Amerisleep is how much care and design that they put into each mattress. From the Celliant fabric that encases the mattress, their patented Bio-Pur foam, and the advanced air circulation, every aspect has been carefully constructed.
This is really encouraging to see, especially in an industry where cheap companies arise every day trying to pass off some glued-together foam as a mattress.
Amerisleep is also committed to being environmentally responsible. Often the manufacturing of foam and mattresses can produce a lot of harmful byproducts that are bad for both the air and the surrounding area.
Amerisleep uses a special VPF foam manufacturing process which allows them to waste minimal product and produce minimal waste. As a result, they have been able to far surpass the EPA’s expectations according to the Clean Air Act.
Amerisleep Review
The thing that we like most about Amerisleep is that they give their customers plenty of options. If you’re on the heavier side or enjoy a firmer sleeping experience, you have the AS1 and AS2. If you’re on the lighter side or enjoy being able to sink deep into your mattress, you have the AS4 and AS5. If you’re somewhere in between, then they have you covered with their best-selling AS3 model.
Amerisleep also offers all of the extra materials that you may need. From specially-designed pillows, mattress protectors, and even organic cotton bed sheets, they really are a one-stop shop. That means that you won’t have to go out and do hours of extra shopping praying that the sheets actually fit. They even offer a fully adjustable base should you desire.
Let’s start off our Amerisleep review by going over some of the key features. Following this, we’ll open some of them up and give you our honest opinion along with some of the more technical details.

Overview
Now that you’ve seen all that Amerisleep has to offer let’s take a few minutes and really open up some of these features. It’s all well and good to see a long list of features, but it really doesn’t give much perspective into why they matter and how they are supposed to help you sleep better. Let’s start by looking at some of the differences between their models.
Here Are Your Options
As we mentioned earlier. Amerisleep offers five distinct mattresses. The engineers know that no two people are exactly alike and that each person will have their own individual sleeping needs based on their body size, weight, medical issues, and general sleeping habits.
As such, they knew that they could never create a perfect brand unless they made something for everybody. While most of their core technology is present throughout all five models, there are some small differences. Let’s take a look.
-
AS1
The AS1 is Amerisleep’s most bare-bones model. It is also their firmest and least expensive model. It does not feature the Surface Modification Technology (explained later) or the advanced comfort of the Affinity Foam layers. However, it does use Amerisleep’s patented Bio-Pur foam which provides advanced support and allows plenty of airflow.
This mattress is good if you prefer a firm-sleeping bed, are purchasing a mattress for smaller children, or if you’re on a budget. It is built to the same standard of quality as the other models but is made without some of the extra bells and whistles.
-
AS2
The AS2 model is for those who are seeking the enhanced comfort and dynamic support of the AS3, but who want a slightly firmer feel. This model is classified as their medium-firm mattress. People who usually opt for the AS2 are those who don’t like the feeling of sinking into their bed, individuals who have back pain and need extra support, or heavier people who require the extra resistance provided by a firmer mattress. Because of the extra support, customers who are primarily back or stomach sleepers may appreciate the AS2.
-
AS3
The AS3 is Amerisleep’s flagship model. It combines the best of both worlds in support and comfort. If you’re like 80% of sleepers and don’t have any outstanding sleep concerns, then this is the mattress which you should be looking into.
It provides outstanding comfort and conforms to all of your body’s curves and pressure points, but also supports your hips, shoulders, and back, preventing them from sinking too far. This model is great no matter what position that you usually find yourself in, and is probably going to be your best bet if you’re purchasing this mattress with a partner.
-
AS4
The AS4 is classified as a medium-soft mattress. If you enjoy a bed that you can sink into a bit more, or you’re a lighter-weight individual, then you’ll really appreciate this bed. The AS4 model is also very popular among side-sleepers. When you sleep on your side, your shoulders, hips, and knees put extra pressure on the bed’s surface. On a medium or medium-firm mattress, this can result in some minor discomforts. However, a medium-soft mattress like the AS4 provides the extra sinkage that you need to be truly comfortable while sleeping on your side.
-
AS5
Amerisleep’s AS5 mattress is their most plush model (it’s also their most expensive). It’s designed to give you a luxurious night of sleep and will envelop you in it’s soft and hyper-responsive layers of high-tech foam. This is not a bed you will want to get out of in the morning, so you might want to take some items off of your To-Do list.
What makes the AS5 different is a layer of Amerisleep’s Active Flex foam. This foam is very responsive and provides lots of extra bounce.
While a super-plush mattress like the AS5 sounds enticing, it’s worth noting that you won’t have quite the same supportiveness offered by the AS3 and even the AS4. This is an important consideration if you have any musculoskeletal problems. However, if you’re a healthy adult who wants to sleep like royalty, then the AS5 will offer you the experience that you’re looking for.
Advanced Sleep Technology
By now you should have a good idea of which firmness level is right for you. In the above descriptions, we mentioned quite a few different technologies such as Celliant fabric, Surface Modification Technology, and Bio-Pur foam.
Now let’s briefly unwrap some of the fancy terminology so you can better understand their benefits, and why they matter.
Celliant Fabric Cover
Celliant is the fabric of the future. Besides feeling incredibly soft, Celliant helps to heal your body while you sleep. Sounds like something straight out of Star Trek right? Celliant has discovered a way to turn science fiction into science fact.
If you’ve spent some time reading through our other mattress reviews, then this may sound vaguely familiar. That’s because Celliant technology is also present in the Bear mattress which we’ve reviewed here.
This fabric is threaded with millions of microparticles that absorb your body heat and transform it into infrared rays which it beams back into your body. These infrared rays have been scientifically proven to increase blood flow and circulation, accelerate muscle and tissue recovery, and allow you to wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated like never before.
If you’re still not a believer, take a look at the hard science here. They even have nine FDA approved clinical trials to back it up.
This futuristic Celliant fabric was used to craft a specialty mattress cover that fully encloses each Amerisleep mattress. Not only does this keep the mattress clean, but it will ensure that you get a night of sleep unlike any other. It’s a great feature that those who live an active life will surely appreciate.
Bio-Pur Foam
Amerisleep’s patented Bio-Pur foam makes up the comfort layer of all their mattresses. Depending on which model you opt for, the foam will come in varying thicknesses and firmness levels, but the overall technology is the same.
Bio-Pur foam is created with VPF manufacturing process which is almost completely emission-free and is engineered primarily from plant-based material. If you’re environmentally conscious, you’re making a wise choice by selecting Amerisleep.
What makes Bio-Pur different from traditional polyurethane foams is its open cell structure. This allows air to flow freely through the foam and prevents you from getting hot and sweaty in the middle of the night. The foam still retains the advance responsiveness that we’ve all come to love and expect from a memory foam mattress, though.
A thick, solid version of this foam is also used as the supportive base layer. Amerisleep refers to this as their Bio-Core layer. It’s manufactured using the same environmentally responsible methods and is built to last.
Affinity Foam Layers
In between the Bio-Pur and the Bio-Core layers of foam lies what Amerisleep refers to as their Affinity foam layers. These aid in the transition between the comfort and support layer, and enhance the ability of the mattress to fully mold to your figure as you sleep. This layer also has additional air channels to wick away your body heat and keep you cool as you sleep.
Surface Modification Technology (SMT)
Each layer of Amerisleep foam is enhanced with what they call Surface Modification Technology. While it sounds a bit high-tech, the concept is fairly simple. It involves taking the bottom of each foam layer and engraving it with circular, textured airflow channels. This further promotes a cool night of sleep and encourages higher levels of airflow to your primary pressure points (knees, hips, shoulders).
Active Flex
Active Flex foam is unique to Amerisleep’s AS5 model. It forms the upper level of foam and provides an advanced level of comfort and adaptability. Active Flex conforms to all of your body’s pressure points, fills in every single gap, and feels incredibly comfortable.
The Active Flex foam also contributes to the overall bounciness of the AS5 mattress, setting it apart from all of the other models. You’ll find that this model is springy and hyper-responsive to your movements.
Adjustable Base Available
One of the really cool things about Amerisleep is that they design all of their mattresses to work with their adjustable base. Their hand-crafted base is remote-controlled and can change from a flat bed to an upright futon-style bed in a matter of seconds.
If you like to sleep with your knees raised, no problem! If you want to sit up and watch television in bed, no problem! You can even order a dual-side adjustable base so you and your partner can adjust your respective sides without disturbing the other.
Obviously, their adjustable base will cost you quite a bit more, and all of the beds are designed to work equally well on traditional mattress bases. However, it’s nice to have the option of an adjustable base available should you want it.
Cons
Amerisleep has a mattress for almost everybody, but sometimes having too many choices can be a bad thing. One of the most common causes for returns and exchanges is that the buyer selected a mattress that was either too plush or too firm instead of sticking with the recommended AS3.
While having plush and firm options available is certainly nice, it often causes people to second-guess their original choice. They then opt for a bed that wasn’t designed for their particular body type and sleeping style. We encourage you to look closely at each model and think objectively about what your sleeping style and bodily needs are before making a final choice.
Another complaint that seems to arise from time to time is with shipping times. On their website, they advertise that they ship your bed in 3 – 5 days, and that your mattress will be delivered within the week following. Compared to certain competitors who offer delivery within 5 days maximum, this can seem a little long.

Conclusion
Amerisleep aims to provide everybody with the best night of sleep that they will ever get. To do this, they worked tirelessly to create a lineup of five separate mattresses, each designed to cater specifically to various customers.
The level of quality that is present in each mattress that they produce is noticeable and evident in how well you’ll sleep each night. From the high-tech Celliant fabric designed to heal you while you sleep, the responsive Active Flex foam, the eco-friendly Bio-Pur foam, and the transitional layers which provide superior airflow, quality is in every corner of this mattress.
One of the best features is that they offer a 100-night trial period. They encourage all buyers to try the mattress out for at least 30 days to become accustomed to it. However, if you’re still not satisfied after 30 days, then you have another 70 to return it for a full refund or to exchange it for another model.
As always, in today’s Amerisleep review, we’ve done our best to give you an honest review of both the company and of the mattresses technical features.
