Luxi Mattress Review

Last Update: August 2018

The bed-in-a-box sales method has revolutionized the mattress industry. There’s no doubt about that. What used to be a week-long process of bouncing from store to store, searching for the perfect combination of comfort and price, can now be done from the comfort of your own home.

You can sit down, browse through hundreds of competitors, select a bed and have it shipped directly to your doorstep. Some companies such as Saatva even offer a free set-up and delivery service.

However, with every great marketplace innovation, there are always cheap competitors who swoop in trying to make some quick cash. Luxi came about as the creation of a father-daughter team who wanted to create a high-quality, incredibly comfortable, and adjustable mattress that wasn’t over-marketing and trying to rip shoppers off.

In an industry full of swindlers and middlemen, their noble stance and dedication to quality and design have certainly paid off. They’ve managed to create a truly unique design, and an incredibly comfortable bed at the same time.

In our Luxi mattress review, we’re going to start by telling you a little bit about the company, list some of the key features of the bed, and then tell you what’s so great about the bed. We’ll end with a brief list of pros and cons and some general pricing advice.

Let’s dig in!

About Luxi

Luxi was founded in 2015 by father-daughter duo David and Shannon Farley. David had spent the past 25 years in the foam industry designing and engineering the latest and greatest memory foam technology. He currently holds 27 patents for his personal designs, the best of which are present in the Luxi mattress.

Shannon Farley, on the other hand, had to take a different approach to her career. Whereas her father was a master engineer, she was an expert in marketing, branding, and helping start-ups reach their full potential.

They both realized that there was a hole in the mattress industry that needed to be filled; a product that lives up to its reputation. At this time, many new online mattress companies were being created, and very few delivered what they promised. Shannon and David knew that they could do better. Luxi started from the ground-up with David’s cutting-edge designs, and combined with Shannons market expertise, Luxi took off.

They are committed to producing all of their products with concern and care for the environment and discourage waste. David and Shannon knew that if they didn’t want their mattresses to add to the ever-increasing amount in landfills, that they would have to create a product that people didn’t want to throw away or return.

Three years later, they have certainly succeeded.

Luxi Mattress Review

Now that you’ve got a good idea of what makes Luxi stand out from their competitors let’s start off our Luxi mattress review by looking at the key features.

  • Unique SBT Foam Design
  • Adjustable Mattress Available
  • Minimal Motion Transfer
  • Odor-Free
  • 10-Year Warranty
  • 100-Night Trial

David’s unique foam design is what makes this mattress exceptional. He spent a quarter of a century engineering and perfecting memory foam, and his expertise is evident in the design of the Luxi mattress.

SBT Foam Design

SBT stands for “Support Balancing Technology.” This refers to the dynamic cushioning and support offered by the combined layers of the Luxi mattress. The upper columns conform to the body while allowing for a healthy amount of lateral movement, and the support layers cradle and cushion the entire body while supporting the heaviest portions.

Foam Columns

What makes the foam truly unique is the upper layer of columns. This is a lot different from your traditional flat memory foam and offers several considerable advantages such as:

  • Advanced airflow through the mattress surface
  • Allows for lateral shifting and leaning without making you feel “stuck”
  • Molds to every corner and angle of your body, regardless of sleeping position

Point Elastic Behavior

Both the upper foam layers and lower support layers are engineered to have “point elastic behavior.” Essentially, this just means that the foam has a little bit of extra bounce and provides better support. This elasticity also prevents the mattress from sagging over time, as each foam molecule will “spring” back to its original position once you get out of bed.

Adjustable Mattress

Luxi encourages all of their buyers to purchase their 3-in-1 adjustable mattress. While you may pay a few hundred dollars more for this model, you can change the firmness at will. All you have to do is unzip the mattress cover and remove (or add) additional layers of foam. Within 5 minutes, you could have a completely different mattress.

Each 3-in-1 mattress is also designed for each side to be adjustable so that partners can personalize their side of the bed. For those who cannot afford the extra cost, however, the Luxi One remains their best selling model and is preset to a medium-soft level.

Because of their commitment to an eco-friendly design and manufacturing process, the Luxi mattress is relatively odor-free. They design their foams using industry-leading recycling and filtering technology, which prevents material waste and harmful chemicals from seeping into the surface of the mattress.

Many bed-in-a-box mattresses have an “off-gassing period,” during which the mattress has to be left in an open-windowed room for 24-48 hours for harmful chemicals and strong odors to dissipate. This mattress is different, however. If you look through the Luxi mattress reviews written by customers, you’ll find that they commonly mention a pleasant lack in odor, and can sleep on their new bed the same night that it’s delivered.

The one con that we have to mention in our Luxi mattress review is regarding their adjustable mattress. While having the ability to adjust the mattress firmness is great, we found that if you flip over the foam to adjust to a firmer level, the foam columns (which provide most of the airflow) face downwards.

As a result, this bed can get rather warm if you’re sleeping on the flat side, an unfortunate downside of pure memory foam. This can, unfortunately, dissuade quite a few people from purchasing the 3-in-1 adjustable model, and instead opt for the Luxi One mattress, which is both cheaper and never sleeps hot.
