If you take a look at Winkbeds’ website, you’ll see a boldly proclaimed message stating, “We’re in the mattress industry because we don’t like the mattress industry.”
While it may seem a bit contradictory at first, you’ll soon discover that this is the perfect motto for their business. Winkbeds is quite unlike any other mattress distributor, and their flagship mattress is one of the most appealing on the market.
Today, to help aid you in your search for your next great mattress, we’re going to be giving you our honest Winkbeds review. Let’s start by taking a minute to talk about the company and what makes the Winkbed different.
Winkbeds is a relatively new company that was founded in April 2015 by Daniel Adler. Before he got into the business of making beds, he had a career as an accomplished lawyer. Normally, these two career paths wouldn’t exactly be compatible, but Adler found his niche.
He took his cutting, no-nonsense approach as a lawyer and applied it to the mattress industry. When you buy a mattress from Winkbeds, you’re not getting a bunch of over-marketed nonsense. You’re getting an industry-leading, high-quality, and well-constructed bed that was manufactured right in the heart of the USA in Watertown, Wisconsin.
Winkbeds utilizes a hybrid mattress design that combines the best elements of a traditional innerspring mattress with those of a more modern memory foam mattress. This means that you’ll be sleeping on a responsive, springy mattress, which also provides long-lasting support and contours to the way you sleep.
One of the greatest features of this bed is their patented coolControl system. If you’re willing to pay extra for their advanced base, then you will have the ability to change the temperature of your side of the mattress at will with the press of a button.
In today’s Winkbeds review, we’ll start by listing few of the features that make this mattress stand out. Then we’ll spend some time and delve into the important ones and why they matter to your sleep.
- Available coolControl Temperature Management System
- Hybrid Mattress Design
- 10-Year Full Replacement Warranty
- 101-Night Sleep Trial Period
- Tencel Cover
- Built-In Lumbar Support Pad
- Perimeter Support System For Enhanced Edge Support
Now that you know a bit more about Winkbeds, and what makes them great, let’s break down some of the technical terms to give you a better understanding of how everything works.
As we mentioned earlier, Winkbeds uses a hybrid design in all of their mattresses. If you’ve read through some of the other reviews on our site, then you may recognize this term from our Saatva mattress review. The top layer consists of two layers of high-quality polyurethane memory foam. These contour to the natural curvature of your body, ensure that you have a responsive comfort layer and also help to isolate movement, so you don’t disturb your partner in the middle of the night.
Directly under this layer, there is a layer of pocketed air springs which give the sleeper a buoyant feeling and help to keep the mattress surface cool.
Underneath this, there is a layer of lumbar support foam. This high-density foam ensures that your hips and lower back don’t sink too deep into the surface of the mattress.
The main support layer of the mattress is made up of individually-pocketed coils. Instead of using a thick poly foam base as many designer mattresses do, Winkbeds utilizes a spring system. These springs help to give the bed a really responsive and bouncy feel.
In addition to the added bounce, a coil system allows for better airflow and keeps the mattress from becoming too hot in the middle of the night.
Four Levels of Firmness
Winkbeds makes their mattress in four different firmness levels: Soft, Luxury Firm, Firm, and Plus. They do this to cater to people who may have different sleeping patterns, comfort desires, or who may be heavier or lighter than the average sleeper.
Let’s take a brief look at the differences.
Designed for individuals who really want to sink into their mattress. This is great for people who are seeking enhanced pressure point relief, or who are side-sleepers. It has a firmness rating of 4.5.
Luxury Firm is Winkbeds’ most popular model and is the best choice for most shoppers. It has a firmness rating of 6.5 and is designed to be a good fit for combination sleepers or couples. It provides a perfect blend of both comfort and support.
If you’re on the heavier side and need a bit of additional support, or you prefer to sleep on a firmer surface, then the Firm may be for you. It has a firmness rating of 7.5 and is good for people who regularly sleep on their back.
The Plus has a firmness rating of 6.5 and was specially designed for individuals who weigh over 300 pounds. Although the firmness rating is the same as the Luxury Firm, the Plus model includes a denser coil system and provides extra lumbar support for the hips and midsection to prevent sinking. It’s worth noting that, due to the extra material required, this mattress is a little bit more expensive than the other levels.
Winkbeds provides a Tencel fabric cover for their mattress. This fabric is ultra-soft, flexible, and are an all-natural product derived from wood fibers. Besides being incredibly soft, the Tencel cover wicks away moisture, protects the mattress from debris, and stays cool.
Encasing the sides of the mattress is a high-density support foam. This gives the Winkbeds mattress an exceptional level of edge support and will prevent sagging and sloping in the years to come.
Our Winkbeds review wouldn’t be honest if we didn’t tell you the things that we don’t like about it. Honestly, there isn’t much that we didn’t like about it, especially considering the advanced temperature control system.
That being said, the temperature control system does make a bit of noise. It’s not unbearable by any means and sounds more like a small fan in the background. However, if you prefer a completely quiet room, then you may want to just purchase the mattress separate from the coolControl base.

We highly recommend purchasing the bed with the coolControl base. While this does add a significant amount to the price ($2,000 or more depending upon the bed size), it is worth every penny. Each side can be individually customized so you and your partner can sleep comfortably every night without arguing over the thermostat.
